Aphasia Communication Groups

Aphasia is a language disorder caused by damage to the language centers of the brain, typically from brain injury or stroke. It can affect any of one’s comprehensive or expressive language abilities in conversation, reading, writing, and taking in information. Aphasia has nothing to do with intelligence, just communication, and so a person with aphasia can have many smart and caring thoughts in their mind, just some difficulty getting them out. It can range from mild (perhaps only the inability to name objects) to severe (making communication nearly impossible).

Persons with aphasia can become very withdrawn from their friends, family and social activities as a result of hospital and rehab stays or simply as a result of having a new way of communicating. Aphasia Communication Groups, either in conjunction with or following one-on-one therapy, provide a supportive place to practice conversation, socialize with those who can empathize, and improve your quality of life.

LSVT LOUD for LIFE®️

Parkinson's Disease Maintenance Therapy

Abstract line drawing of person using a megaphone to amplify their voice, representing the LSVT LOUD® method for Parkinson's.

LSVT LOUD®️ is a speech treatment for people with Parkinson's Disease (PD).  Sometimes, there is a disconnect between the volume that a person with PD hears when they speak and the loudness of voice that they are actually using. LSVT recalibrates their perception of their own voice so that they know how loudly to speak with others, be it at home, work, or other places in the community. The goal of LSVT is to feel comfortable using a stronger voice at a normal loudness level.

LSVT LOUD for LIFE®️ is an exercise class for those who have completed LSVT LOUD®️ to practice using their LOUD voice with other graduates. LOUD for LIFE®️ classes include exercise practice as well as conversation — they are intended to be fun and challenging, providing opportunities for socialization while exercising.
